DiSCO is the largest digital signage Expo in Europe, held annually in Holland. With our Engage TM digital signage software and hardware solution now in over 150 stores nationwide, we were keen to hop on the plane to Amsterdam and showcase our digital solutions alongside the latest digital signage developments from the leading innovators around the world.

Our Engage TM software allows the user to create and send content to any screen location at the click of a button, it also reports on which adverts have been played and if any of the screens are faulty. The good news is that following our trip we know that the next software release (out this month) is far more user-friendly and advanced than anything else currently on the market. A greater challenge is the fact that we are about to see mobile technology, digital signage, touch screens and web technologies converge, no doubt this is part driven by the popularity of ipad technology.

To give you an example of the type of technology that already exists imagine: You are at a bus stop and on the digital sign (3D and no need for the daft glasses) promotes a clothing offer, you use your mobile phone to scan the bar code offer on the signage screen. This then takes your mobile browser to a website where you claim the discount. Alternatively, it directs you to the nearest store (and gives you directions via GPS). When you get to the store, linked offers are shown on the window via digital signage and above the counter, you use the touch screen near the counter to purchase the product. You may think that is intrusive, but it is likely to become quite normal as we just adjust to the environment around us.

In addition to the integration of technologies and potential for data capture, we also experienced real time image capture initiatives. An adidas clothing display exhibited only one stand of physical products, the rest of the panels showing products were touch screen – it was literally spot the difference. Then when you touch a digital product, a ‘to scale’ image of you wearing that particular item appears in front of you. Does my bum look big in this? Fortunately, at the moment you don’t get a rear view perspective.
